Team fencing involves two teams of three fencers (with an optional reserve). A team match sees 9 consecutive individual bouts with the winner being the team that reaches 45 hits in the final bout.
The first bout runs until one fencer has reached 5 hits or three minutes have elapsed. The second bout till 10 hits or another three minutes elapsed and so on until all nine bouts are completed and one team has reached 45 hits.
Team fencing has the same associated drama as other team sports with a team being able to pull back a large margin for a late dramatic win whilst teams selection and tactics plays a large part in the final result.
